Katerin Theys trained as an interior architect in Belgium, moved to Hong Kong in 2013, and founded her label in 2019 with no formal fashion training whatsoever. She calls the work architecture for the body. It starts with a material in hand: rare, sometimes only a few metres, sometimes never intended for clothing at all.

Founded in Antwerp in 2018, KAAI designs leather bags in Belgium and constructs them from Italian cow, nappa, and suède leather. The collection is built around an interior architecture of compartments — laptop, cable, pen, key — finished in the house’s signature micro-suède blue.
