"Born in Beijing and now based in New York, Sashiko practitioner, artist, and fashion designer Wenjue Lu is neither bounded by the realm of art or fashion. Focusing simultaneously and inter-sectionality on slow fashion, modern art, exhibitions, and cultural workshops, she initiated her eponymous label(Wenjüe Lu) in 2020, in the hope of recovering what is being overlooked in this fast-paced time. High-end boutique Dover Street Market has carried Wenjue’s designs in its New York, Los Angeles, and Beijing location, as well as luxury e-retailer Net-A-Porter’s Chinese division with exclusive collaborations. Since 2021, Wenjue has been hosting educational workshops introducing attendees to the cultural practice of Sashiko, a traditional Japanese folk hand-stitching and mending technique that dates back hundreds of years. In February 2022, Wenjue’s solo exhibition featuring multi-medium artworks, “Poetic Transfigurations”, was held in LATITUDE Gallery in Chinatown, New York City."
